Student charged with bringing gun, narcotics into car at Boiling Springs High School

Spartanburg Co., SC (WSPA) — A student at Boiling Springs High School was charged Friday afternoon with drugs and a gun after a gun was found in his car.

RAID core. According to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office, Inc., a private company contracted by the school district, was doing a monthly cleaning of the school’s parking lot around 2:15 p.m. when the dog alerted officers to a car in the parking lot.

When the student returned and was told that his car would be searched, the deputy said he informed school administrators that he had a gun in the car.

The sheriff’s office said administrators found a 9mm pistol, 30 THC vape cartridges, a knife and two Schedule II drug bullets inside a backpack in the car.

The student was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, a minor in possession of a firearm, and charged with possessing a weapon on school grounds.

Deputies said the student was detained and taken to the Juvenile Justice Department in Columbia.

Spartanburg School District Two issued this statement through the Sheriff’s Office on the matter:

As part of our comprehensive plan to keep our students and staff safe, we conduct random drug sweeps across our campuses. We contract with a local company that specializes in using K9s to detect illegal substances. Today this strategy proved to be effective. While sweeping the Boiling Springs High School campus, a K9 alerted a student’s vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, narcotics and a firearm were found. We are deeply grateful for the professionalism and dedication of our BSHS Administration and the School Resource Officers assigned to the campus. With cooperation, they immediately identified the student and took him into custody. This student has now been suspended for expulsion, and the investigation is now in the hands of our partners with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. At Spartanburg School District 2 our mission is to provide a safe learning and learning environment for all. This means that we will not tolerate drugs and weapons on our premises. We will use this incident as an inspiration to stay dedicated to actively finding these things and finding more ways to remove them from our schools.
