A tweet from Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe shared a pivotal moment for the nascent EV automaker, as its first R1T pickup destined for the customer debuted off the production line today. The image shows a large group of Rivian’s staff at the Normal, IL facility cheering for the flagship EV complete assembly ahead of delivery to customers this month.
Rivian is an American EV manufacturer that is all set to deliver its first passenger EV to its customers with the R1T pickup. Previously, Rivian has struck deals with companies like Amazon to provide commercial EVs to support delivery.
Backed by other major US companies such as Ford, Rivian has been able to raise nearly $10 billion in investments over the past decade.
With the R1T starting deliveries this month, along with the R1S SUV later this year, Rivian is set to hit the EV market ahead of its recently announced IPO, which is valued at $80 billion.
With “launched” versions of its two flagship EVs this year and two more trims of each planned for this coming January, Rivian is gaining some serious momentum.
With today’s news shared by the company’s CEO, Rivian is taking another step closer to hitting the US roads with the R1T.
Rivian CEO shares images of customer R1T leaving production line
In a tweet Today from Rivian CEO RJ Scaringe, the automaker celebrated its first R1T pickup, destined for an actual customer rolling off the production line.
Along with several images capturing the momentous moment for the American automaker, the CEO of Rivian shared the following message:
After months of building pre-production vehicles, our first customer vehicle rolled off our production line at Normal this morning! The collective efforts of our team have made this moment possible. Can’t wait to get these into the hands of our customers!
With the announcement, Rivian customers are lucky to be able to hold on to reservations for the launch version R1T soon to see the new EV in their driveway.
Depending on where the customer lives, vehicles can make a pit stop at one of Rivian’s newest pre-delivery centers for a final inspection.
Still, R1T customers should see the first deliveries in the coming weeks with the launch version of the R1S arriving later this year.
According to Rivian’s website, two additional trims of each EV model (Adventure and Explore Package) are still scheduled to start deliveries in January of 2022.
