Hurricane Ida crushes ‘Duke of Hazard’ Gen Lee Carr – The Hollywood Reporter

Another victim of Hurricane Ida’s wrath: the iconic General Lee car of the 1980s television series the Dukes of Hazzard.

Actor John Schneider’s studio in Holden, Louisiana was hit by a devastating storm, leaving one of his General Lees crushed and the other apparently caught in a tree as if caught mid-jump (see photo below).

“Well… when something like this happens you have two options: tears and laughter,” the 61-year-old actor, who played Bo Duke in the original series, wrote on Monday. “I choose to laugh. So… what’s your caption? Here’s mine: “Miss Ida stayed at Miss Shirley’s last night to see the general…”

Others may caption the photo a little differently. The 1969 orange Dodge Charger has been an increasingly controversial pop culture icon over the years, as it was named after Civil War General Robert E. Lee and decorated with a Confederate flag on its roof. In 2015, TV Land removed reruns of the show and Warner Bros. halted production of General Lee toy cars amid a movement to remove Confederate symbols in the South.

Schneider defended the vehicle Hollywood Reporter interview last year. “I’ve never had an African American come across and I don’t have a problem with that,” Schneider said. “Duke of Hazardo It was a uniting force. Mother, grandmother, all wanted to see it together. But who benefits from partition? the Dukes of Hazzard Has been shot, I wrongly believe. We haven’t missed one generation yet, but we can miss it from the next generation.”

Schneider noted that he was returning from Tennessee where he was working on hurricane relief efforts. “I will take a realistic look at the damage done to mom’s house in the morning and then go back to Tamil Nadu to continue flood relief,” he said on Twitter on Tuesday. “I request that if you know anyone who is doing something like this, you help them – go out and help them…”

The actor requested help for the loss by directing fans to his studio’s website. Aid in hurricane relief efforts may also be more widely donated to the United Way of Southeast Louisiana or the Red Cross.
